Famous Stars in Space

There are millions of stars in the universe. They are visible mostly in the night sky. They are present also but are not visible to the naked eye. These stars are made up of gases like helium and hydrogen. The composition varies from one star to another.

The star groups come together to form galaxies and constellations. Unlike the planets and satellites which reflect light, stars emit their own light. One such star that provides light to Earth is the sun. It is the nearest to Earth and the most famous star. It is also the source of energy on earth. The sun provides life top the plant and is important for the survival of all living beings.

The sun forms the center in the solar system with planets rotating around it. The earth is also one of the planets that revolve around the sun. It is the source of heat and light for these planets. During the day the only star visible to us is the sun. The others are visible at night only as they are very far from the earth and are outshone by the sun.

The North Star is another famous star. It is located on the northern side and drives it names from its location. It helps people to navigate northwards. The title is given to the star that is near north celestial pole and is circumpolar to it. You can easily view this star with a naked eye. The star is also called as Polaris. It is the brightest star that forms the constellation Ursa Minor. It is situated at the end of the constellation which appears to be in the shape of a Little Dipper. The star is visible in the skies in the northern hemisphere only. As opposed to the other stars, the pole star or the Polaris has a fixed position and

The next most famous star in the galaxy is the Sirius. It is the brightest star that can be viewed during the night. The star is a part of the Canis Major constellation. This star can be viewed easily from almost everywhere on earth. However, it can not be viewed from north of 73.284 degrees. The Sirius is also called as Winter Triangle's vertex in the northern hemisphere. This star can be seen in the daytime if the sky is clear and if the condition is such that supports visibility. It is not a single star but a binary star system that compromises of Sirius A and Sirius B. the Sirius A is the main part while Sirius B is the companion. The former is brighter while the latter is not very bright.

The Alpha Centauri is also a famous star which is a part of the Centaurus constellation. It is towards the Southern Hemisphere and may not be visible in the Northern Hemisphere. It is very close to our own solar system. Like Sirius, the Alpha Centauri is also not a single star but consists of three stars. The two main stars are called as Alpha Centauri A and Alpha Centauri B. The third star of the group is the Proxima Centauri which is comparatively small and dim. This star is 4.22 light years from Earth while the other two stars are 4.36 light years from the Earth.

These stars appear to be very small as tiny dots in the sky but it is so because they are very far from Earth. They are much larger than the earth. However even as tiny dots they do entrall us with their sheer elgance and will continue to amaze us in perpetuity.
