Space

Space, in its simplest form, is any of the vast empty areas in the universe that is outside of the atmospheres of celestial bodies. Despite common belief, outer space is not entirely empty, as it is sparsely filled with light particles and hydrogen gas.

Astronomy and Space

Astronomy is really the study of all the celestial objects that call space their home. If it originates outside the Earth's atmosphere, they they probably study it. It is easy to start amateur astronomy, with either bare eyes or binoculars required.

Deep Space

Deep space is generally the term for space outside of our own solar system. Our solar system is apart of the Milky Way Galaxy, which bulges at its center at around 100,000 light years thick. Other objects in deep space include the Andromeda galaxy.

Viewing Earth From Space

There are an incredible amount of famous pictures of the Earth from astronauts and satellites who were viewing from space. Pale Blue Dot is one of the most famous, which is of Earth seen from 4 billion miles away. Earthrise, taken during the Apollo 8 mission, is equally as famous.

Hubble Space Telescope

Named after Edwin Hubble, the Hubble Space Telescope is easily one of the most important tools astronomers have ever had in understanding the nature of our universe. Since it is in orbit, the telescope does not have interferrance with our atmosphere, and can see ultraviolet light.

Famous Stars in Space

Some of the most famous stars in space aren't actually planets at all, believe it or not. Many can recognize the brightest "star" in the sky, but it actually Venus, a planet. When looking at the constellation of Orion, the third star down from his sword is actually a nebula.

Space Travel

Space travel has gripped the world as long as people have been able to look up at the skies. Generally, traveling through space is a goal for scientific research, but it may also be used for the survival of the human race at some point.
